Terry Pratchett

My ongoing love for you knows no bounds.

I discovered the DiscWorld when I was 17, a friend who worked at the bookstore in the mall suggested the first novel, thinking that I would like it.

Boy was she right. I have read every book he's ever written, and when Geoff and I worked at Bolen Books, He came to do a reading and a signing and I got a hug. From. Terry. Pratchett.

It was awesome and weird. I have a picture of it tucked into my copy of Good Omens, which is boxed up somewhere under my parent's house.

I named my cat after a character that I love, still love, although now reading that book (Good Omens, which I started into again last night) is bittersweet, because I don't have that little bastard anymore. He definitely suited his name though, and I am hoping still does.

For Christmas Geoff gave me The Colour of Magic and The Light Fantastic graphic novels, and I finished them last night (hence the starting into Good Omens again)

I might have to read the whole series again now!

Happy Holidays!

Geoff and I are heading up Island for the annual Holiday Family Shuffle, so I won't be checking in here until we get back, but I just wanted to send out a little love for the season!

Here's a little treat for YOU!

Butter sauce recipe:
1/2 cup butter (or alternative)
1 cup white sugar
1 tspn vanilla
3/4 - 1 cup whipping cream

melt the butter and sugar together (in the microwave or on the stove top, whatevs)
stir in the whipping cream and vanilla.
Pour onto your favorite foods.

I put mine on cranberry puddin, but I am pretty sure that it would be INSANELY DELICIOUS on ANYTHING.

She said YES!

A little while ago I was contacted by a lovely man named Ben who wanted a ring for his love. (her name means dove, so beautiful!)

It was a absolute pleasure to work with him on this because he is probably the sweetest person alive.

We worked out the design together, he wanted something that would symbolize what they have and connect with their lifestyle and values, and I was totally happy to oblige.

So what we came up with is this...

A nest made of gold on branches made of recycled silver with copper leaves (also recycled)

I wish them THE BEST in all of their future together.
Thank you Ben for allowing me to be a part of this.

Congratulations to you both!

This letter...

brought a tear to my eye. Thank you for posting it to your blog so that I could find it today and share it.

I hope that my children are this thoughtful and kind.

When we have some. You know.

Crush crush

Oh Jason Schwartzman.
What is it about you that is so damn appealing?

Oh Betty

I posted about Miss Betty over on the FGI blog today, then subsequently spent AN HOUR browsing through more of her blog.

So I thought that I should share.

I just discovered Le Blog de Betty through A Merry Mishap

She's gorgeous, has rad style and I am completely in love with her hair.

Now I am getting off the computer FOR THE REST OF THE DAY.

Giant Cinnamon rolls

I think we ate them for dinner.

They were a snap too, I just used the Gluten Free Pantry's French Bread/Pizza Dough mix, rolled it on some cinnamon and sugar (with nutmeg and cardamon too), then plopped some butter in the creases and baked.

They were best that day, but not bad the next day.
(I had made up a bowl of drizzly icing to go with them. Dangerous? Yes.)

I think that I prefer them a bit smaller though, these were too big for me. I made them once before in muffin tins and I think I'll do that again next time.

These were however made at a reasonable hour.
So we had time to digest at least.

How good would that poster look in my studio!

The answer is REALLY GOOD! In case you were wondering.

I have absolutely no qualms whatsoever that I discovered it on the cover of Domino Magazine. In fact, for me, that only makes it better, because I LOVE DOMINO SO MUCH.

Custom Pet Portrait

I am working on this cutey for a certain someone (can't name names before Christmas!) but I wanted to share.

I've got another custom piece I finished up today, but I don't know if they read the blog so I am going to keep that one under wraps until I know it's safe.

Holiday decorating

That's right, we have never decorated for the holidays before. Geoff isn't super into decorating at all if we're completely honest, and I haven't really been that big into traditional holidays for the most part.

My Mom and my sister got all of that gene. They are currently setting up and decorating the tree at my parent's house.

All Day.

I can remember very clearly years of my Dad and I sitting in the corner trying to stay out of it, while my Mom and Kristy got giddy over throwing tinsel and finding THE EXACT RIGHT SPOT FOR THAT ORNAMENT.

It's just too much for me.

But I was feeling festive on Friday afternoon and thought, what the hell.

Holly? Check
Twinkle lights? Check
Sparkle Deer? Check
Ghost Horse? Check
Vampire Bunny? Check

Decorating on a $0.00 budget? Priceless
(the holly was free from the driveway, and the twinkle lights were left over from the wedding)

I even decorated other parts of the house. I KNOW! I'VE GONE MAD!

While I was setting all of this up, my big toe decided to make a break for freedom.

lucky for me my stocking usually has socks in it!

Afternoon Naps

I came out of the studio yesterday to discover this...

Geoff asleep on the floor on the dog bed. It's set up in front of the fire I'll grant you.
And Norman on the couch.

The Woodsman

I made this ring for our friend Carlin a couple of years ago now, but at the time wasn't able to get very clear pictures of it.
But he was on the island visiting a few weeks ago and wore it so I snuck in a few shots to share.

It's the biggest Antler ring I have ever made and it was really fun.
As soon as I learn how to sand cast at home I will be making more of the regular sized Antler Rings again.

I've dropped Geoff at school, eaten breakfast and now I am going to lock myself in the studio and not come out until I have finished at least 2 things.

Lunch does not count.

good times

I found this picture in a bunch of papers that I unpacked from the lake last weekend and had to share.

Just LOOK at my hair! (yes that's me)
I will never understand why my mother gave us bowl cuts AND mullets AT THE SAME TIME.

Both of us too, if I had a picture of my sister at that time she would have a very similar haircut. Except that her hair was curly.

I can't look at this without laughing.

(can you see my hands? I think that I am preparing to twirl or curtsey at the time the photo was taken. My Mom is a pro at the "catching us off guard" shot. If we knew it was coming we would make faces or pose, we each had/have our own signature pose.
Mine is similar to Peter Pan, hands on hips, legs braced. Kristy's was/is the flirty glance over the shoulder/hip out move. And she could pull that out with just seconds notice too, so hilarious and amazing.)

I love you Mom!

monster garlic

When Geoff goes grocery shopping he always brings home something interesting.

(the first time he shopped in Halifax most of what he brought home was pink. I'm not even kidding, it was hilarious)

I just posted these two lovelies into the shop.

Crochet Necklaces for all!

I've been making more of the crochet neckpieces of an evening.
I had a couple of requests after I posted about the first one, so I've been working away!
Thanks you!

I've just popped a reserved listing for Christine onto Etsy, and I'm having tea with Andrea next week where she'll get hers!

I have a few extra ones that I finished up as well, that I will pop into the shop tomorrow. Here's a peek!

But this afternoon we're off to winterize the cabin a little bit more, I heard that the lake is up PAST the back deck! I am excited to see this! And I hope everything is okay and dry up there!

I'm taking the camera so I'll share when we get back!

where I apologize to lady on the street.

While I was driving home from dropping Geoff off at school today I turned onto a side street and there was a lady jogging with a toddler on a bike. They had stopped on the corner (the little guy wobbled into a tree) so I drove on.
Well she wasn't watching and I clearly scared her because as I drove by she yelled at me and glared at me with her hands on her hips.

I feel AWFUL right now.

I know that they are fine, I kept my eye on them as I drove away to make sure that they were okay, and she jogged on. But I am feeling so shaken. Like I should have done anything else but drive on. And I am feeling guilty/terrible/anxious/sorry for making her scared.

So instead of working on something productive right now I am fretting.
What if she is still mad and tracks me down to yell at me?
What if she calls the police? (I know that I am getting ridiculous here, but I feel like I need to talk it out and no one is home to listen to my anxiety.)

So from now on I am going to drive even more like an old granny (Geoff gives me the gears for diving so slowly through the neighborhood, but he's seen NOTHING yet!)

And I am really very sorry for scaring a (probably) nice lady and her kid. It was unintentional and I hope that they feel better than I do right now.

For Sandra

I know it's not your birthday or anything, but...

Because I lurve you

(and he's a DREAMBOAT!)

winding down and I need this cookbook

This has been a busy busy weekend! I feel like I haven't stopped yet.
Friday was a good Get Things Done Day (almost everything but vacuuming! The machine is lurking- no looming at me from the other room as we speak. I've left it in the middle of the living room so I HAVE to do it tonight)
And yesterday Mom, Kristy and I went and shopped the ut of Hand Craft fair.
Like the old days!

(We've gone every year since I was 14, except for the last 2 years when I was selling)

It was in a new location this year so I wanted to scout it out before I decided to do it again. But it was pretty good I thought. There were lots of people (I was jostled several times) and the energy felt better than it has in the last few years.

Last year was a wash out.

But I think that I would do it next year. I spoke to a couple of vendors who were happy with it and a couple who were not. So I guess it depends on what you are selling and who's shopping.

(no pictures, we ate pretty much nothing but Tickleberries all day (chocolate covered food) so the wits weren't entirely on our side.

AND THEN! I played badminton at the nearby highschool for a while! So much fun!

And today I had a coffee date with my lovely friend Kathryn (who designed my website and many other amazing things) who just got back from travelling, then worked on a few things when I got home.
Had a bath (which I almost never to, more of a shower girl if you need to know) and then had a long distance phone date with my lovely friend Sandra. Which was awesome.

And I just saw this and I need it.

I've been wanting it for a while, then forgot about it, but I just discovered it again!
(check it out here)

Just look at those uniforms!
