Love Knots

I had picked up some gold filled wire a little while ago to try out an older design that I had been making in silver, but wanted the look of GOLD, without the cost of GOLD.

(I am tempted right now to always write GOLD in caps. Seems fitting yes? We'll have to see if I remember.)

When I sat down with it though I made these instead. Little Loveknot charms.

They just kind of happened, and I really like them. Simple and sweet without being fussy. I like them on the crochet chain as well, it feels like something you would get from your teen boyfriend. Only more sophisticated somehow. Plus I love how every part of them is handmade. (I crocheted those chains don't you know!)

And the gold fill wire was really nice to work with. I described it on the FGI blog like a corndog: instead of a wiener it's brass at the center, and instead of cornbread it's a heavy layer of gold. So not gold FILLED per se, but that's what they call it.

You can get gold fill chain too, so if you want the look of luxury without having to sell your first born (exaggerating!) this could be a way to go.

Crochet Necklaces for all!

I've been making more of the crochet neckpieces of an evening.
I had a couple of requests after I posted about the first one, so I've been working away!
Thanks you!

I've just popped a reserved listing for Christine onto Etsy, and I'm having tea with Andrea next week where she'll get hers!

I have a few extra ones that I finished up as well, that I will pop into the shop tomorrow. Here's a peek!

But this afternoon we're off to winterize the cabin a little bit more, I heard that the lake is up PAST the back deck! I am excited to see this! And I hope everything is okay and dry up there!

I'm taking the camera so I'll share when we get back!

I've been feeling crafty

Something that I have been trying to do lately is always be working on something.
Sometimes it's hard to get into the studio and hammer out (literally) something new, but it's nice to sit on the couch with Geoff.

So what can I do to be productive while still getting in some quality time?

The last couple of winters I've knitted, and I will likely start a project in December... knitting is time consuming.
But crocheting something like this guy isn't so bad.

I really enjoyed making these guys (I've made 5 or 6 of them now, the RED ones are particularly fun)

Now that I think about it it's been about a month since I made one.
Maybe I'll start a new one tonight.

Lines and Shapes

I am coveting this book series right now.
I saw it over at Wren Handmade's blog and I am feeling a kinship with the images she had posted.
I don't know why. I WANT SO BAD to crochet and knit. In fact I do knit, every fall, myself a new necktube.
(this year's will be silver)
But I LURVE, possibly in a pervy way the necklaces that she makes.
These guys...

And I think to myself, "COOL! Learn to crochet so you can may yourself one!"

But when I dare ask.

And also I just want one of hers anyway. So delicate, so beautiful!

I do not have time for the learning of the crochet.
Alex at work taught me how to crochet a chain stitch, but that's as far as I've got, and I am really, if I am honest with myself, too busy catching up with my own work before I can start adding new hobbies.
Especially since I basically took the last month and a half off completely to organize the wedding.

and now I have NO excuses!

But I was very good this weekend so far. 6 pairs of earrings are done and ready to package, as well as 3 samples for new pendants that are WAY cuter than I expected them to be. Plus another pendant sample (not sure if I am going to make this one again, cute, but I dunno.)
And a new sample pair of earrings.
AND I sliced up more antler for the new Antler earrings that are SO AMAZING.

But this artist book series is calling my name. Back to what I was originally getting at.

sigh.
