His Room

Sonny's room is coming along nicely now. This morning I spent some time in there, we put up a world map, a Buffy Musical poster and I scraped a lot of paint off of our freshly painted bookshelf (sorry Mom!) just putting the shelves back on.

It feels REALLY WEIRD that we're only 10 days away from our due date now, or is that 9?

I FINALLY uploaded the latest pictures from the camera like a good girl!

Here it is, in all it's slightly wrinkled, well loved glory. The Finished Couch Cushions.

It's never exposed like this. I had to wrangle the dog and three blankets off of it just so that I could attempt to smooth it out and make it look tidy, and as soon as I got this SINGLE photo snapped, Norman was right back up there waiting impatiently for me to cover him back up with all three blankets.

We're going to have to be really careful that we don't lose Sonny in there until he's big enough to hold his own. It's like a wormhole to another dimension those blankets.

A cozy one, but still.

The living room ReDo and The Couch

I was reminded (quite politely by the lovely Miss Sarah H) on the weekend that I still hadn't shared the "after" of our couch project.

I still don't have any pictures of the "after". Geoff and the dog study there everyday and I haven't taken the time yet to tidy it all up and make it pretty to photograph.

But I will.

HERE however are some "during" shots of the Great Living Room Re-Arrange of 2011.



(can you see Norman in the blanket there? It's hard to see him, as he is the same colour as the giant dog blanket that he lives in. Poor bugger has been sat on more times than I can count)

These are the closest to "before" and "after" pictures that I have right now.




The side table that's under the window in this picture is now in Sonny's room (it opens up into storage, so it will be a good little work table/play spot/toy storage in there. He won't be using it like that for a while, but it didn't work in the living room AT ALL.)

And the second mattress that is under the couch is also gone now. Pops came and took it up to the lake for me.

AND the same weekend we did the re-arrange I also sewed covers for all the pillows and a back rest for the couch in the same gray. I'll get my act together and stage the crap out of that couch this week and give you a REAL "after" shot.

It's pretty nice when it's not draped with giant textbooks. (I am not kidding when I say giant either. HUGE)

Black blanket!

I just saw this over on Making it Lovely and I am totally sold!
This black blanket from Ikea is totally gorgeous.

And would look amazing in our bed room.

Oh yes it would.

bedroom plans (woo woo!)

You are such a perv.

I am talking about DECORATING!
So!
I painted the bedroom this really soothing lovely grey/twilighty colour and I lurve it.
But then I got busy with work and realized that I should be spending my money on groceries like a responsible adult and not on trips to the thrift store for baskets/mirrors etc.

So the bedroom is a little forlorn!
We've got some lovely new white bedding thanks to my Ma, and I've been searching out online sites for dressers (thanks to Geoff's generous Dad that's totally acceptable! THANK YOU AGAIN!)
I am really looking forward to taking an afternoon to check out some used furniture places here in town because I bet there are some GEMS in there that just need a little love.

I could give them that.

But here is the plan as it currently exists in my head...

So I am thinking that getting some pictures from the wedding framed above the bed, maybe 4 equal sized frames.

And the Art Project!
This will have to wait until after Christmas but the plan is to DRAW MY OWN MURAL BITCHES! There is this wall paper that I LOOOVE so MUCH!

Ahem,

But I am not in a position to afford real wallpaper in my life right now. But paint pens? I can swing 2 or 3 of those and an afternoon of my time.

REALLY looking forward to doing this.

Art Wall and The Loveseat

I mentioned (what feels like AGES ago) that I would share pictures of The Loveseat that we sneakily acquired when we moved into our new apartment.
It had lived upstairs at Marny's house for as long as I can remember and I always coveted it. It's such a good shape and the colour is insane.
It's a gold loveseat.

And now it's MINE!!
(I am actually laughing like a mad scientist and rubbing my hands together. No joke)

Anyway, here is the picture that I promised.

It's sitting in Geoff's study nook, which will also house our slowly growing art collection.
The Norman portrait was a gift for Geoff a few Christmases ago, I painted it on a piece of the house that he and his Dad built together.

I've got a couple more pieces to add to the Art Wall, but I need to get frames for them.

Soon enough, my lovelies, soon enough.
(I am absently stroking an imaginary cat right now.)

"AFTER" lamp (with no before picture, sorry!)

I wish that I had a picture of that blue lamp in the corner before I painted it.
My parent's received that lamp as a pair for their wedding almost 30 years ago.
It had been sitting in my parent's garage for AGES (like a year) so I scooped it up when Geoff and I moved back West from Halifax and needed some things.

(It used to be dark brown with a taller narrower shade.)

(and the green love seat is the only piece of furniture we brought back with us, my friend Sandra sold it to me when she moved home to Montreal when we graduated. Geoff actually unloaded the entire U-haul we rented and reloaded everything in torrential rain to make it fit, because he knew how much I love it. Good man.)

But I got some robin's egg blue spray paint and now it's a bright shiny thing in my living room.

Another thing that one us of grew up with. Cool.

this is where we live now.

I really love our apartment.

This is mainly the living room with a sneaky peak of the dining room. The fire place is a working gas one, and the absolute JOY of flipping a switch to have a cozy, snuggly fire is pretty awesome.

Just saying.

rearranging

I spent the day puttering around the house, organizing and setting things up.
It feels like I am doing a lot of that lately.
This is the first house that we've lived in that feels really me, which is kind of hilarious since Geoff is the one who grew up here.

Did I tell you that before? The suite that we are renting from Geoff's Mom IS the house that Geoff grew up in.

The space is EXACTLY what I would look for if I was house hunting on my own, and I think that being married is making me feel like nesting or something. Like now that we are married I get to decorate like an adult.
Weird I know, but there you have it. It's been really fun too. I really enjoyed painting by myself (Geoff was in class when I painted the bedroom and the dining room, and while I can't say that I usually LOVE painting rooms, it felt really nice to do it all myself.)

The dining room is as sorted out now as I can make it, I am still collecting art for The Art Wall.

(I'll start taking photos this weekend, hopefully I get a bit of sun)

The kitchen is also at that same point. I've got a wall that is getting a smattering of thrifted and flashy plates, I saw something similar on a design blog months ago and couldn't get it out of my head, so I'm going to make my own!
(again, I will share pictures this weekend)

The bedroom still needs some TLC, but I've got a great idea that my mom inadvertantly gave me while we were having lunch last weekend, so I now need to get my hands on a projector and some paint pens to draw my own tree "wall paper". (maybe free hand? don't know yet)

Plus run the idea by Geoff.
That seems fair right?

And after today I feel like my studio is in a better set up for productivity.
I've got a new print for work on the go on my drawing table, some new earrings to work on, on my bench and a Fork Fork Fork Spoon wall plaque to fix for Geoff.
(a wedding gift that the glue has come undone on.)

Feeling good about the space these days.

Now I just have to invite some friends over to hang out in it!

The excitement continues!

Work on the new suite in town is underway and in full swing. We might even be able to get in there late next week! Which would really be amazing because Geoff has early morning classes and the hour long (sometimes longer depending on traffic) commute is a bit stressful.
Late next week might be pushing it, but it's definitely coming along well.

And now I have started to think about decorating and what we'll do with the space.
And I will admit to being very excited about this.

It's a two bedroom suite with a seperate dining area off the kitchen and Geoff and I have talked about the allotment of zones since we both need our own spaces.
We're going to keep the main bedroom as the bedroom and Geoff is going to take the second bedroom as his space.

Which means that I get the "dining"room off the kitchen. Which has great light, a good vibe and is connected to the kitchen which means I get to lord over both zones like a queen!

The more I think about it the more excited I get! The kitchen is already usually my favorite place to be, and I am loving the idea of sectioning off the far side of the dining room from the living room to create a cozy little den/studio.

And I have been thinking that I'd like to find something like these bookshelves from ikea to do it.


They are not so tall that they block off the whole space, and I like that I can set up display to enjoy from both sides. Plus I am so jazzed to plan out how I am going to organize all my crap (seperate baskets for crafty stuff?? Paints in their own box???)that my head is practically spinning!

I would rather get something in a solid wood (my sister has a really great unit that she got from ikea years ago that they unfortunately don't sell anymore), as I am a bit concerned with all the chemicals in the particle board, so I am looking forward to thrifting for something or building something myself.

I don't know when I will find the time, but still. Excited by the prospect.
